Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-11
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of the TheFitnessDB API and website. It is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service.
1. Fair Use
You agree to use the Services within the rate limits and quotas of your subscription tier. Automated requests must include reasonable delays between calls. Bulk data extraction beyond your tier's allocation is prohibited.
2. Prohibited Activities
You may not: exceed your allocated rate limits through any means, including using multiple accounts; share, publish, or redistribute your API key; scrape, crawl, or systematically download exercise data beyond your API allocation; resell, sublicense, or redistribute raw API data without an explicit reseller agreement; attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or access the source code of the Services; use the Services to transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code; attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, other users' accounts, or internal networks; use the Services for any illegal purpose; or submit patient identifiers or protected health information (PHI) through the API.
3. Rate Limit Enforcement
Requests exceeding your tier's rate limit will receive HTTP 429 (Too Many Requests) responses. Persistent or deliberate rate limit abuse may result in temporary suspension or permanent termination of your account. If you need higher limits, contact us to discuss upgrading your tier.
4. Intellectual Property
TheFitnessDB exercise data, taxonomies, and anatomical cross-references are proprietary. Your API subscription grants a limited license to access and display data within your applications. You may not create derivative databases, train machine learning models on the data, or claim ownership of the underlying data.
5. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of any violation of this AUP, please report it to [email protected]. We investigate all reports and reserve the right to take appropriate action, including account suspension.
6. Consequences of Violation
Violation of this AUP may result in: warning notification, temporary rate limit reduction, temporary suspension of API access, permanent account termination, or legal action in severe cases. We will notify you before taking action except where immediate action is necessary to protect the Services or other users.
7. Changes
We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days in advance.
